What is a Community Council?

A Community Council is a voluntary organisation set up by statute by the Local Authority and run by local residents to act on behalf of its area.

As the most local tier of elected representation, Community Councils play an important role in local democracy.

Community Councils are comprised of people who care about their community and want to make it a better place to live.

What does Feughside Community Council do?

Feughside Community Council facilitates a wide range of activities which promote the well-being of the area. We bring local people together to help make things happen and promote the identity of their community. We can advise, petition, influence and advocate numerous causes and cases of concern on behalf of local people, including:

  • Projects to enhance the community

  • Campaign on local issues

  • Organise community events

  • Comment on issues of planning and development

  • Take ownership of community assets, such as parks and buildings

Separation of Feughdee West Community Council

Feughside Community Council was established in December 2020, following the dissolution of the former Feughdee West Community Council (FWCC). This change led to the creation of two new community councils: Feughside Community Council and Inchmarlo, Brathens and Glassel (IBG) Community Council.

The decision was made as part of the 2019 Community Action Plan (CAP) review, which highlighted differing needs across the FWCC area. Forming two smaller, more focused community councils allows each area to better represent and respond to local priorities.
